Ignorant Racists Target American Born Latino Singer Marc Anthony for Singing National Anthem
So when has singing the national anthem become only a white thing? This is out of control. Misinformed people making comments without having proper knowledge or education before making statements online. For starters, Marc Anthony was born in New York City in 1968. Secondly Marc Anthony is Puerto Rican. Anyone with half a brain that studied in school would know that Puerto Rico is part of the United States as a commonwealth. Since 1917 the people of Puerto Rico have been granted US Citizenship and use US Dollars. I love baseball, and for ignorant people to ruin it with ill-informed, ignorant, and racist comments in this day and age is so sad. I'm proud to be an American born and raised in New Jersey, and I'm also proud to be a Puerto Rican!

Importance of Internet Promo - Times Have Changed, You Should Too!
In the past 22 years I have seen music marketing go from flyers, banners, billboards, and videos into a worldwide internet pandemic. From Myspace, Facebook, to Twitter thousands of music artists have been under utilizing these mass marketing tools just hoping that the right person will view their profile, wrong! Without proper promotion you are not going to get anywhere. It's like a chef without the right ingredients. First of all you need a plan of attack, simply creating a page and posting things is not going to help you at all.
Content:
What are you promoting? This is the number one question you need to ask yourself. Are you using your social networks to be social and promotes your music, or are you using them to promote yourself and try to score dates which is a very big mistake. No one is going to take you seriously as a music artist if you are always trying to hit on potential fans. It just causes friction and potential fan loss. What you post is very important too. Your post don't always have to be about music, you do have to show your fans there is a human side to you rather than a music robot. My point is your post have to remain neutral in some sort of way. Just remember you always have the freedom of speech. A little controversy doesn't hurt either, just don't get into heated arguments online, it's pointless. We all have our views, just have respect for other peoples views as they should yours. If they don't then ignore them.
Do's:
- Use as many social outlets as you can to spread your music and word. Sites such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, ReverbNation, and Instagram have really helped pave the way for many artists in the industry. You can also create a blog or website and post links or music players with your music
- Invest money in your craft which is your music. Instead of saving to buy the next pair of Jordan's or an 8th of weed, use that money to buy an original beat or for studio time. Now you can make a hot song to promote on the internet.
- Be original, yes it's cool at times to rock on another artists beat. But invest in your own, there are many producer out there selling great quality original that you can have partial rights to. Of course the producer does retain some rights but that's standard.
- Ask your friends to help you promote your songs. If they are truly your friends and believe in what you do they will help you unconditionally.
- Use professionals to help you with promotional material such as mixtape covers, promo banners, and photos. Pictures in your bathroom, dark photos, low quality photos just won't cut it. This is where you have to invest a bit in yourself as well. Get a professional EPK done, get a photo shoot done, have a DJ host a mixtape for you.
- One major important to to me in the music industry is Gmail. If you don't have a Gmail account, please get one, it makes sharing music and beats with artists and producers so much simpler. Gmail comes with a built in music player, so when a producer sends you a beat, or an artist send you a song, you can play it right on the spot before downloading it. It does have to be in mp3 format though.
Don't:
- Don't use your social networking sites as a dating site, use your real name then. Otherwise you're probably going to start detracting or losing potential fans.
- Don't think promoting one hot song, once a week is going to help you become a star. It's not, chances are it's not really going to be heard.
- One thing I urge artist not to do is pay for plays or fans. You have many sites that offer plays and fans on Youtube and Reverbnation for a fee. Yes they will get you plays, but no, no one is really listening and the fans really don't care about your music. You are just over inflating your stats, and you really don't know who is listening to keep track how you are really doing.

Naughty by Nature - Hip Hop Hooray Tour 2013 BTS
What an "Epic" night we had at the Gramercy Theater in NYC last Sunday at the 20th Anniversary Hip Hop Hooray Tour by Naughty by Nature. The 90's "True School" era was in full effect with special guests doing appearances during the show. Some of the special guests included Doitall of the legendary Lords of the Underground, Channel Live, Dres of Black Sheep, Mr Cheeks of the Lost Boys, Bumpy Knuckles, aka Freddy Fox, and more... Also in the mix were legends such as DJ Kool Herc, Ed Lover of Yo MTV Raps, and Eric Sermon just to mention a few. Check out some of the pics below. So you want to know more about blogging? Well you have come to the right place.
Blogs:
Blogging really relies on one main focus, and that is relevant topics. You need to put out topics that people wan to relate to not matter what that may be. There are billions of internet users searching for unlimited topics. The trick is getting them to find what you are putting out there. Keywords are a very important part of this function. The keywords you choose will aid and direct the searches to your topic. 20 keywords is usually the limit for most sites in order to speed up searches. So it's not about having as many keywords as possible either. It's more about the keywords you choose to represent you. If you are a musician, keywords such as "music, mp3, rock, hip hop, pop, etc.", are crucial.
Social Networking:
Social networks play another great role in blogging. As you can see below this page is set up to share on several social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. Depending on your following the results will vary. I personally favor Twitter as far as getting my blogs publicized on the web more. The reason is that there are programs called web crawlers that search for keywords or "hash tags" used on Twitter. This increases when your followers retweet as well. Facebook works well too, but as I said before it all depends on your content and following. Keep in mind that people will only be interested if its relevant to their lifestyles.
Consistency:
Being consistent in writing blogs is essential. The more you blog, the more chances you have of your blog being read or looked at. Some people choose to stay on one topic, and that is fine. I choose to write about anything interesting, from music, politics, to real life events. I like to have a broad wide-ranged audience. This also helps me keep track of what topics work better than others. Right now I have nearly 100 blog posts, and just over 25,000 views, with about 5,000 views in just the past month with some extra online promotion I started implementing using the techniques I described. I don't think blogging has to be so complicated. You can blog about almost anything, you can promote yourself, music, brands, headlines, videos, and more. WTF! Radio Stations Killed Hip Hop Music
So how did radio stations kill music? The answer is simple. Many of us that grew up in the 80's and 90's remember waiting for your favorite song to play on the radio took a few hours. Especially those of us that wanted to record a song on cassette, with the record and pause button on standby. Now you hear the same 6 songs on the radio all day long no more than 45 minutes apart. There are thousands of unheard songs out there by very talented artists that can't afford to pay to get their songs heard yet less have it played on the radio. It's so sad what commercial radio has come to. Hope a change comes soon. As a DJ and a fan of music I ask, please give us more music. Give other artists that opportunity to shine!
