Is the relationship between MCs and DJ's a thing of the past?
The connection between DJ's and MC's has been a sacred bond since the birth of Hip Hop. DJ's have always been on the forefront of Hip Hop paving the way for artists from all over the world to be heard from the big stage down to the local basement party. Many new artists and new DJ's have been overlooking this over the past years from what I have been seeing. The DJ art form is still alive, but the brotherhood between new artists and DJ's has faded some. When was the last time you saw a new artist do a hot live performance with a DJ rocking along? There are artists that still rock along with DJ's, but not many and a lot of them are old school 90's rappers that are true to the form.
Now in the digital days MC's are bombarding DJ's with songs on the internet with even an introduction or having established friendship or a business relationship yet. Get in good with the DJ's first, support their craft, and trust me they will support yours back also. Remember DJ's are an individual with hundreds and maybe thousands of MC's all approaching them, giving them CDs, sending emails, etc..., all to play their songs. Your approach is what is going to make the difference.
