Dj Tecnine's Reflection as a 9/11 WTC Rescuer - 10 Years Later

Besides the music. My passion is helping people. This is what I was doing 10 yrs ago on 9/11 and the 6 days to follow. I lost a good friend/family, not to mention the hundreds of my fellow first responders that paid the ultimate sacrifice that was supposed to be all in a days work. Never take life for granted. RIP to all that lost their lives on this tragic day. We will never forget!
I am Carlos Negron, a life long Jersey City resident and retired EMT that served on the Plainfield Rescue Squad and Tour Chief for West New York EMS at the time. On September 11, 2001 I was on duty as an EMT working in Plainfield, NJ at the Plainfield Rescue Squad when the attacks took place. When the first plane struck we had just walked in the emergency room of Muhlenberg Hospistal in the city. At that point no one knew what was going on except that a plane hit one of the towers. We went on another call and when arrived back at the E.R. we encountered news footage of the second plane barreling into the second tower. After the second plane hit we were immediately activated by CENCOM to respond to the Staten Island side of the Ferry terminal to aid in the rescue efforts. As we overstocked our ambulances we heard news that first tower had collapsed, we left immediately after that. En route we heard that the second tower had collapsed also. As we race down Interstate 278 towards the Narrows Bridge we encountered heavy traffic up to a certain point, then the police bottle-necked the road into one exit and we had a clear run from then on. After that we only encountered a few dozen deserted cars. It felt like an apocalypse was happening. Our 3 ambulance convoy kept in touch via short wave radio, we were all hoping what we heard on the radio wasn't true. I was the first in the convoy to get on the Narrows Bridge along with my Captain Tyshaun Hawkins, as we looked to our North our worst fears were confirmed. It was surreal, all we saw was a cloud of smoke. The towers we gone. We arrived at the terminal at around 11am and my team was there for the arrival of the last ferry from Manhattan that had mostly walking wounded. My team only treated and released one person. When we were released from the terminal around 3pm our convoy was asked to report to Liberty State Park back here in Jersey City. From there we would head over to Exchange Place to wait for more wounded, only one arrived by boat and we rushed him on to the waiting stretcher of the next in-line ambulance. Later on that night we went over on a tug boat to deliver supplies and assist. That was the start of a grueling 6 day search and rescue on my part. The worst news came on the morning of September 12 when the news was broken to me that a lifelong family friend and Jersey City Fire dispatcher Joseph Lovero was killed from a massive heart-attacked after being struck with a piece of the first falling tower. It's still hard to imagine. Their is so much I remember and would like to forget about those 6 days I was there and everything that took place. All I could say is rest in peace Joe! We will never forget all our fallen brothers and sisters lost on September 11, 2001.

Arsenio Hall: I'd like another talk show

Arsenio Hall: I'd like another talk show

Arsenio Hall wouldn't mind a little more late night action.
Deadline reports that during a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, the former talk show host indicated that he would be willing to return to the small screen.
"I'd have to change my name to Nick Cannon and live with Mariah [Carey]," Hall joked. "But I think it's a perfect time for that, personally. Give me a microphone. My son's 11 and he can drive himself to school. I'm ready to host!"

"The Arsenio Hall Show" broke ground when it debuted in 1989 and helped further the careers of Busta Rhymes, MC Hammer and saxophonist Bill Clinton. The show was canceled in 1994.
Hall said he wouldn't mind another shot at hosting if a network was willing.
"It's pretty crowded out there," he said. "I'm not sure if it's too crowded for a 55-year-old guy to re-emerge, but if they give me a little daylight I'm gonna slide into it."

Mark Wahlberg: I'll pay for an 'Entourage' movie

The show's producer, Mark Wahlberg, said at the Television Critics Association press tour that he is willing to ante up for a film based on the hit HBO series.

"I said if I had to finance it myself, I'd do it," Wahlberg said.

Wahlberg appeared with the show's cast and creator Doug Ellin as they discussed the series final season after eight years. Star Adrian Grenier said "We're all choked up."

"Truthfully, we've been together for eight years, creating something we're very proud of," Grenier said.

Ellin assured fans that while Vince and the gang will be gone from the small screen, they'll be coming to a theater near you soon.

"We're going to do a movie, it's a question of when and how quickly," Ellin said.

Bob Dylan's the Jay-Z of his time, says his Rapper Grandson

Folk rock legend Bob Dylan’s 15-year-old grandson is getting into the music business for himself on the hip-hop side, according to AllHipHop.com.

Pablo Dylan (son of Jesse Dylan) shows off his skills as a rapper and producer on his new collection, “10 Minutes.” And while their sounds aren’t exactly similar, the youngster can relate to his granddad.

"I consider him the Jay-Z of his time,” the teen says. “Of course, we do two different things and I don't want people to see me for what he has done. But what I have done is definitely influenced by him."

Pablo isn’t the only famous kid on a quest for rap stardom. “Rich Hil,” son of fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger, recently signed a record deal with Warner Bros, reports XXL magazine.

The 21-year-old will reportedly release an EP titled “Support Your Local Drug Dealer” this fall. “My dad couldn’t be more proud,” Rich Hil tells XXL.

And then there’s “Chet Haze” (a.k.a. Chester Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson), a Northwestern student and budding rapper known best for his university-inspired take on Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow.”

Chet, who made his live debut this summer, has told the Chicago Tribune that his upbringing is not "the typical (background) for a hip-hop artist." But, he goes on, "it's 2011. The nature of hip-hop has changed so much the last few years. Nowadays artists come from all walks of life. Everyone has their own story to tell.”

Soulja Boy Buys $55 Million Birthday Jet for Himself

Soulja Boy Buys $55 Million Birthday Jet for Himself

It looks like this Soulja Boy report just isn't flying.

In honor of his birthday, Soulja Boy was said to have dug $55 million deep in his pockets for a new private jet. This is according to a member of his management team who spoke to TMZ.

The "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" and "Turn My Swag On" rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, who turned 21 on Thursday, reportedly spent $35 million on the actual Gulfstream G5 jet and is dropping another $20 million on upgrades.

The Pimp My Ride-worthy improvements were said to include custom Italian leather seats, flat screen TVs, four liquor bars, a customized travertine-tiled floor, a revamped bathroom and Brazilian hardwood cabinets.

But a rep for the rapper wants to bring this report down to earth.

"The elaborate rumors circulating about Soulja Boy purchasing a jet for his 21st birthday are grossly over exaggerated and are not true," says the rep.

Soulja Boy is also throwing a birthday party in Miami Friday night, which reportedly set him back $300,000. Sean Kingston, Bow Wow and Dwight Howard were among those who made the guest list for the bash, which will be streamed live – for a fee – on his website.

Times Square 'Weed Man' files lawsuit for his right to beg for marijuana money

BY Scott Shifrel
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

The "Weed Man" of Times Square demands his constitutional right to beg.

Joshua Long - who carries a sign saying "Help! I need money for weed" - filed a federal suit Tuesday complaining that his First, Fourth and 14th Amendment rights have been violated by repeated arrests.

"Though the First Amendment protects Mr. Long's right to stand on the sidewalk with his sign, he has been, and continues to be, regularly and wrongfully, arrested, charged and harassed by police officers," the suit says.

"These arrests and other harassment have diminished Mr. Long's ability to lawfully beg in Times Square."

Long, 30, has been issued multiple summonses, arrested at least six times, pepper sprayed and harassed by cops, according to court papers in Manhattan Federal Court.

"He certainly has the right to stand on the sidewalk and ask for money," said Long's lawyer, Matthew Brinckerhoff. "I can only conclude that the police don't like his message."

Long is seeking a court order protecting Long's right to beg and unspecified damages and lawyer fees.

City officials declined comment pending receipt of the suit.

Program won't cover 9/11 responders for cancer

This is sad being that I am a WTC Rescuer myself. - Dj Tecnine

New York (CNN) -- Workers who were involved in the response to the World Trade Center attack will not have their cancer treatments compensated under a program set up after September 11, according to a controversial decision released Tuesday by the World Trade Center Health Program.

There is inadequate "published scientific and medical findings" that a causal link exists between September 11 exposures and the occurrence of cancer in responders and survivors, program Administrator John Howard said in a statement.

The decision forms part of the first periodic review of what the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act will provide.

After a lengthy battle, President Obama signed the $4.2 billion legislation in January to provide health care for those who helped clear the rubble and search for human remains at the World Trade Center site in New York.

"As new research and findings are released, we will continue to do periodic reviews of cancer" for the program, Howard said, with the next review expected in early to mid-2012.

Some of the New York lawmakers who originally hailed the legislation are now speaking out against the exclusion of cancer.

"As the sponsors of the Zadroga Act, we are disappointed that Dr. Howard has not yet found sufficient evidence to support covering cancers," Democratic Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler and Republican Rep. Peter King, who wrote the act, said in a joint statement.

"This is disappointing news for 9/11 responders and survivors who tragically have been diagnosed with cancer since the attacks and are suffering day to day and awaiting help," they said.

"So many people have gotten such rare cancers -- and at such young ages -- that it seems obvious there must be a link," Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer said in a statement.

He labeled the report "premature" and said revision will "demonstrate that those who were exposed to the witches' brew of toxins at ground zero have developed serious illnesses, including cancer, and deserve justice."

Many survivors are similarly disheartened.

"It's very disappointing, very heartbreaking," said Reggie Hillaire, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in 2005.

Doctors told the New York police officer, who's 34, that developing such a cancer was "really, really rare so young."

"I've met so many people who were police officers at the same time who have these cancers, and we're all about the same age."

Hillaire, who worked at the site for 11 days and then at the Staten Island Landfill for 63 days, has also been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Cancer treatment being covered by the program "would have brought some closure. ... It feels like it's never going to end," he said.

"It's very unfortunate. My doctors think (the cancer's) directly linked" to the September 11 exposure, said Al Schille, a New York Police Department detective who also suffers from multiple myeloma cancer.
